10-ish Days of Breakfast with Me

So why breakfast, you may ask? Simply because I LOVE breakfast foods. I love all things eggs, bread, potatoes, pancakes, and every other breakfast foods that come to your mind.

Breakfast, I believe, is the most important meal of the day--to skip breakfast is absolutely blasphemous in my book. I mean when else can you eat breakfast foods? But of course that's a trick question because the answer is ANY TIME OF DAY YOU WANT, and that's exactly what I do.

I literally browse through breakfast recipes for hours through the night after dinner because I'm already excited for what I'm going to eat for breakfast the next day. Call me crazy, I know.

Before we dive into this blog, I want to put out there that I am by no means a person who likes to cook. I simply enjoy breakfast and maybe the combination of foods may be a little... odd, but hey, they're delicious and easy to make. It's a no-judgement zone here :)

I also want to put out there that I did not change anything (what I ate) simply because I was doing this blog. Granted, I had to plan a little bit more than normal and make my foods look prettier, but in no way did I change what I eat to look "healthier" or "better." These are the foods that work for me: they genuinely make me full physically and emotionally. So I hope you guys get some food inspo from my week!

*** I originally wanted to do a week of breakfast meals but because I didn't eat at home and make myself breakfast all 7 days, I decided to extend it to 10 days so there are still 7 days of self-made food. There were a few days I simply ate something my family bought/ made or I went out for breakfast.

Without further ado...

Day 1

Monday | September 14, 2020

The D'eats:

  • Blackberry yoghurt from Es Mambo & Yoghurt Lembang

  • Half a dragonfruit & a few strawberries as toppings

  • Unpictured: 1 boiled egg & 1 piece of chicken (for my proteins)

Es Mambo & Yoghurt Lembang is my absolutely favorite place to get yoghurt. They sell es lilin (an Indonesian childhood favorite) and freshly made yoghurt every week and offer a wide variety of flavors. My favorite are strawberry, sirsak (soursop), and blackberry. If you live in the Bandung area and don't already know this place, you must go! I would recommend going on the weekdays--Wednesday or Thursday--because they often run out of stock on the weekends and need time in the beginning of the week to restock.

I mean, just look at that!

Day 2

Tuesday | September 15, 2020

The D'eats:

  • 3-egg omelette with carrots, tomatoes, onions, and garlic with daun ubi on top

  • Kanzler cocktail sausages

  • Strawberries & almond butter

  • Unpictured: a glass of almond milk

I've only recently started consuming non dairy products because as much as I LOVE milk, they make me bloated (SAD). But can I just say that almond milk and almond butter are DELICIOUSLY AMAZING. I got my almond butter from @belle_munchies on Instagram and my almond milk from @nutmilk_id also on Instagram. I love that these products are not only freshly made upon order, but are homemade. Go support small local business near you!

Day 3 & 4

Wednesday & Thursday | September 16-17, 2020

Day 3 D'eats:

  • Bacang or 粽子 (zong zi) is a traditional rice dish wrapped in bamboo leaves. It is usually made with glutinous rice and stuffed with savory fillings like meat and salted egg. There are sweet versions of bacang, but the most common here in Indonesia are the savory ones.

  • Unpictured: 1 boiled egg & half a dragonfruit

Ever since going to America, I usually opt for more Western style breakfast dishes, however, I still do indulge in Asian breakfast dishes ever so often (ironically because I so often CRAVED bacang while I was in Boston, and now I can eat it as often as I want, but don't...)

Day 4 D'eats:

  • Caesar Salad with salmon from Tilu Kitchen & Patisserie

My mom and I went out to get brunch together before we had to run some errands. If you know me at all, you would know that I am most absolutely NOT a salad person. However, I'm finding that they're actually not so bad. I ate a really heavy and late dinner the night before, not to mention eating a stack of pancakes with ice cream, so I was really bloated this day. I normally would not opt for a salad, but my body craved something fresh and light. I'm writing this to let you know that just because a salad may seem like the "healthy choice" in response to last night's dinner fiasco, it's also important to put your body first and listen to what your body wants and needs. I genuinely felt so bloated and didn't have an appetite for anything heavy--I genuinely wanted the salad, not just because it was "healthy" but because my body craved for the nutrients and energy I would get from the greens and salmon (which is my favorite protein).

Anyway, that's it for my lil rant...

Day 5

Friday | September 18, 2020

The D'Eats

  • Smoothie Bowl:

    • 1 frozen banana, 1/2 frozen dragon fruit, frozen papayas

    • A sprinkle of oats and chia seeds

    • A dash of almond milk

  • Sliced mangoes

  • Granola from East Bali Cashews (Rosella Cinnamon flavor)

One of my absolute favorite things is to create smoothie bowls. They're super easy to make and they're packed with all natural delicious goodness and nutrients! I like to use more fruits and granola as my toppings, or eat them plain, or better yet, make them a more liquidy smoothie for something on-the-go. I have to be honest, the Rosella Cinnamon granola is not my absolute favorite, but it does its job. Any granola recommendations (ones I can find in Bandung)?

Day 6

Saturday | September 19, 2020

I had a book club meeting at Better Days Coffee & Eatery in Kota Baru Parahyangan, and I completely forgot to take a photo of my breakfast! I had their Jolene's Tortilla--which was absolutely amazing btw!--and a cup of hot green tea. Better Days was my favorite spot to eat at during my high school days. Their Spaghetti Bolognese and Better Be Burritos are my favorite. So if you're ever in Kota Baru (perhaps after your morning bike ride on a weekend) go check them out!

Day 8

Sunday | September 20, 2020

The D'Eats:

  • Crispy Salmon Benedicts from Hummingbird Eatery

Sundays are for brunches out with the family. I really wanted a big English Breakfast, so we went to one of my favorite places in Bandung to grab a filling brunch. Their salmon benedict had guacamole and hashbrowns instead of the classic biscuit (and honestly, I didn't mind it. I love a good guac moment!)They have an amazing assortment of cakes and pastries, perfect to satisfy any sweet tooth cravings!

Day 9

Monday | September 21, 2020

The D'Eats:

  • Overnight Oats

    • 1/2 cups oats

    • 2 tbsp chia

    • 1tsp cinnamon

    • 1 cup almond milk

    • 1 tsp almond butter

  • Topped with strawberries, blueberries, bananas

  • Unpictured: 1 boiled egg & 1 piece of chicken

Ever since I was in Boston, I've wanted to try overnight oats, but since I didn't have my own fridge, I had to wait till I got back home. I fell in love! These are super easy to make and super customizable. Next time you want an easy breakfast, try out some overnight oats recipes! The chia seeds give it more of a thick and pudding-like texture and the cinnamon just makes you feel like you're eating cinnamon rolls (which you know I'm obsessed with). I think next time, I'll try this with apples to make the classic apples and cinnamon flavor.

Day 10

Tuesday | September 22, 2020

The D'Eats:

  • Weet-bix Wild Berry Bites

  • Blueberries & strawberries & bananas

  • Almond butter & chia seeds

  • Almond milk

I've seen people make a kind of "fruit cereal" where it's just milk and fruits. I wish I could eat like that, but this girl loves cereal and granola too much not to have them for breakfast. LOL, so why not combine the two?! BTW Weet-bix is AMAZING-- the plain ones and the flavored ones. Give it a try if you haven't already :)

Day 11

Wednesday | September 23, 2020

The D'Eats:

  • Baked avocado and eggs (y'all I really tried...)

  • Blueberries & strawberries & bananas with almond butter

Y'all I really tried with the avocado and eggs LOL. I tried making the holes bigger in the avocados, but my eggs are still too big. I think I needed to cook them a little longer, but I was hungry and impatient so #oops #noshame. I also paired with a fruit bowl, cuz why not. It's so funny actually to see myself eating so many fruits everyday. I used to not be a fruit person, but I think I'm slowly becoming one, and I'm enjoying it too! Of course, I still don't like most fruits, which is why you see me literally eating the SAME fruits, but hey, it's progress from not eating fruits at all back when I was younger :)

So that ends my breakfast journey! I hope you guys had fun looking at breakfast food photos and seeing what I eat. This is so different from my usual blog posts, but I actually had fun doing this because it's so lighthearted and definitely no pressure! Maybe y'all can take away something from this -- new simple recipes, perhaps?

***I want to apologize for the lack of actual measurements, because I usually eye whatever I'm making and wing it, basically. But the foods I made don't really require a strict recipe, so go out and have fun!
